AUGUST 2010 Musician of the Month:
M I A
CMB: Not meant for the weary MIA’s New album Maya is a hard edged world with deep meanings & even deeper base. The Intro brings you right into a childhood rhyme with reason. “The headphones connect to the Iphone. The Iphone connect to the Internet, the internets connect to the government.”
That’s as fu fu as it gets until you hit the erotic & dark portion of the album called , “XXXO”. Which in sound & in visual Images , is her way at playing the “Pop Star” role that all of us have wanted to see for years. She gives you everything you want & yet keeps to her beliefs at the same time. Which is , “the internet is full of losers trying to “Blingeeing” their way into looking like winners”. MIA has done nothing short of making herself completely undesirable during her entire career. Trying desperately to pull as far away from the common placed image of an indian woman (in shall’s , Beads & long swaying hair) as possible. One sit through of “Slum Dog Millionaire” & you get a better clue of the world MIA really came from. It isn’t the sorts that Bollywood films are made of & yet she was only a few miles away from where the stars of Bollywood frolicked. We make allot of jabs & punches at robo-voiced artist with no talent. So you maybe surprised to see an artist like this getting praise. Especially after listening through her LP , simply because many of her vocals are robotic as well. But in a different sense. It isn’t an auto tune to make her a singer. It is displaced audio, rocker leveling, & synthetic blends that help her hard rap vocals transcend the universe. Though there is little to be desired if you are looking for soul music. Or Fantasia type vocals. Not even Britney Spears type Vocals. MIA is about as vocally talent as the “text to speech option” on my Mac. Still she has something to say & that is what separates her from the Kesha’s of the world. Her message (over the sometimes blaring beats) is about the deception of government. Not getting wasted & sleeping with a stranger. Although she does mix some of that in there.
HER New Video is blowing our mind! BOOM!

July 2010 Musician of the month PRINCE
The July 22 edition of the German version of Rolling Stone will be packaged with copies of Prince’s new album 20Ten, and so far it looks like that’s the only news about how it’s going to be released. He has made it very clear in the press he will not be making downloads available & there is no news on discs as well.
The likely hood of it getting leaked online within a millisecond of Rolling Stone going on sale is pretty realistic. His album Planet Earth was issued for free with a British tabloid newspaper in 2007, and remain unavailable in the U.K. on any other format.
Rolling Stone will also have an interview with Prince. Which we are certain will have lots of crazy quotes. The truth is , Prince hasn’t had a hit in the establishment in over a decade. But thats just it. He doesn’t want to be apart of the establishment. He loves his fans, he loves his craft & he loves his flat irons undoubtably. But he doesn’t love the capitalistic world we live in.
More Power to Prince!
CMB: No matter what I say here about his “new” album. It doesn’t change who he is & what he has done over time. When we chose him as musician of the month it was for one thing….. his choice to remain true to himself above all others. In this money hungry world that changed music into a business. Its hard for people to remember music can be made in your home with a few instruments & good voice. The fact that it became a billion dollar industry was really thanks to business mens greed. “20 Ten”, is a gift from Prince to his fans. Literally he gave it away for free. His 2008 album “Lotus Flower” was exclusively released through Target with a special double disc. It seemed back then he was trying to make an album available to the masses but wanted to keep away from venders he didn’t trust. Like online venders (Itunes, Amazon, etc.). Claiming they smudge the facts & with out real revenue & don’t pay up front to distribute. Yet not conforming also translates in the production of the album. Still using percussion from his 90′s & the 80′s hits , say “hmmm really are will using that snare drum?”
The songs are very beautiful in their own right & their meanings are much deeper than the crap on the radio. Unfortunately his old man attitude (that the press has so conveniently Scarlet lettered him as) is also alive and well in his old beats. If only he would have spent less time experimenting with auto tune (yes we could hear it) & more time with new sounds. This album may have a home in popular music today. “Future Song” is a close call. If only this was 1989 then that song would certainly be a futuristic sound. It most certainly could get played on adult contemporary radio but it would most likely wouldn’t make Ryan Seacrest play list. “Lay IT Down” , has only the right elements except its like grandpas version of his grand kids music. Seriously. The real down fall of this album is how wretchedly out dated. His voice is sharp & the way he manipulates words is just as hot now as it was back in the 80′s. But the music is needs to be in the 20 Ten & it certainly is not. Act of God , sounds like a remix of “BAT Dance” & that is pretty bad! It seems Prince knew better than to attempt to sell this album. So he handed it out & sadly I wouldn’t take a copy for free. Good thing I have a greatest hits I can reference in a moment like this. Sorry Prince we still love you but this album is a ….. no … no boo!

JUNE Pride 2010 Musician of the Month: Christina Aguilera
She’s a Fighter! She’s a Bitch! She is beautiful! She’s Bionic!
Christina Aguilera has been in the game for almost 12 years & now people have the nerve to say she is trying to copy some 24 year old girl that most likely grew up watching her! What part of the game is that?
Christina Single handedly has risen to the occasion time & time again to prove she deserves her place in history. If her stellar vocals weren’t enough then her constant changing course always kept you on your toes. Even now as she resurrects her alter ego Xtina for her new album “Bionic”. People are torn between loving & hating the new sound & the xrated robotic new look. Claiming she is just copy catting. Even though her new video is clearly inspired by living legend Madonna. Christina does things in a way that is all her own. Mostly as an outsider (not a 100% die hard fan) it takes a while to warm up to her music when she jumps back on the scene. This is because it takes the ears sometime to remember , “This is what real singing sounds like.” Check out our Review of “BIONIC” & her latest Video Below!
CMB: What is she trying to say? That is what you have to ask yourself before you step into the dark world of “Bionic.”
Why is one of the worlds most respected & talented young singers out there , turning to XTina (her alter ego) & her sexual ways to sell a new album? Why the robotic synths? Why vocoders & auto tune & scary dark beats?
Now that you have all the questions , That I had. Lets talk about the album. But not to the beats, the lyrics. So often as an artist I know it is important to read a book a little before judging it. Just because she is using shocking imagery in her video , “Not myself tonight”. Or (literally) flashing her vagina at the MTV Movie awards doesn’t mean she no longer has anything of importance to say. Sure we are a long way from , “Beautiful” or “Hurt”. But isn’t that the point? Christina claims she went the electro/ hip hop road because she wanted more dance friendly songs for her tour. (which is currently postponed). Yet even if that is true , she kinda didn’t have a choice. Where else would she have gone? She already did kiddy pop, hip hop beats on her “Stripped” album & even a swing sound with tracks like “CandyMan”. Especially in these times dance music is the current trend. But Christina isn’t one for following trends to the T & this album is so far away from the land of Gaga’s & Kesha’s we can’t even tell you. But i’ll try. The opening track , “Bionic “ is scary & spooky but a refreshing new sound from the world of Aguilera. Songs like “Not Myself Tonight & Whoohoo ” fill the Raunchy slot. While “Elastic love” teeters the line & is developed in the same vein with , “Lady Tron’ & “Goldfrapp”. Then from track 6 – 9 it plays more like a night at Club Madonna with a dash of Kylie. Songs like “Glam” & “Prima Donna” give the gays what they want. She slows it down after “Sex for Breakfast” & all in all takes you on a trip that is less Bionic & more Erotic. The lyrics are really touch & go though. Some are interesting & some are elementary at best. If your looking for a deep soul searching experience you won’t find that in the cold, sex driven world or Bionic. Where Madonna went soft silk & wet leather in thee 1990′s. Xtina goes for more cold metal on hot skin approach to her sexual world. BTW : the packaging is not for children. Ball gags, licking women. Almost nude shots & more. She really went full on Madonna “Erotica” here & for that I love it. Will it be her most respected album no. But the good ones never are. It’s always the crap that gets played over & over again. Like That awful Katy Perry song that is a clear Kesha knock off. We are sure that junk will hit number one. Buts so what who cares! Christina’s new album is great & her fans will love it. So if it has to be our little secret, (like Britney’s “Blackout” album) then so be it!

May 2010 Musician of the Month
Tina aka LA
UPDATED” May 24th 2010:
Even Though LA made a huge crazy splash live on SEX TALK With Chayse during May 16th episode. We are bringing you a recorded clip of her singing for your pleasure right here this thursday & you don’t want to miss it!! Until then check out her TV Gold appearance in the video below::

April 2010 Musician of the Month
Below you can check out a full interview with Detroit Rapper Big Bus. Before that here is a little back story on how we came to know him. Our girl Chayse worked with him on a mix-tape track back in 2008 called “Do me” while he was taking over Myspace. Two years later & he has many mix-tapes under his belt, music videos & more! Enjoy!
CMB: Speaking of mix tapes big bus how many mix tapes have u put out or been apart of cause from the looks of your accomplishment photo album on your facebook page ,it looks like every mix tape that ever came out from Detroit your on… lol
Bigbus: I know right , but naw I have released 6 mix tapes and 2 out of that 6 were really street alums that I just released as mix tapes. But I stay leaking records so what ever I leak the dj’s take em and what ever mix tape there working on of course, they add a big bus freestyle or track to it
CMB: How does it feel being under so much pressure , being that you are from Detroit and Detroit not being a major market for hip hop artist to come out from.
Bigbus : Honestly that’s a real good question. But the truth is every time I step in the booth or step on a stage or any time I’m outta town I got it already embedded inside my head that everything I do is a reflection of where I’m from. Do I feel pressure yes but will I crack never Detroit has several different kinds of reputations, but that’s because of all the type of rappers that have came from here, there’s a total different style of rap or should I say music period inside of Detroit other then what’s been already exposed to the industry. And I’m here to help show that side.
CMB: What’s your plans for the near future.
Bigbus : To sell a ton of albums lol….. But besides music I always wanted to write ,direct and also act in movies so along with music I’m pursuing my acting career as well. I’m currently taking writing classes to help me pursue that dream.
CMB: Are you ready for success that music can bring because a lot of people may think they are ready until it actually happens.
Bigbus: Of course I’m ready I been thru so much it aint nothing that I haven’t did or done or had that I’m not already use too.
CMB: What is your current relationship status?
Bigbus : I’m very single at the moment, you can’t be an artist and maintain a relationship until after you become successful in my opinion
CMB: I hear you have two kids. What is it like being a dad & trying to obtain your dreams?
Bigbus: Yes I have 2 little girls 5 and 7 and let me tell you it is a hard job to pursue music and try to maintain a steady relationship with them. Time is a helluva thing to sacrifice when it boils down to your kids.
CMB: There are lots of rappers & wannabe’s out there. What makes you different from the masses?
Bigbus: I’m real and they are fake that’s it lol
CMB: Who are 3 celebrities you’d like to work with?
Bigbus : Scarface , p diddy , and eminem
CMB : What is the theme of your new album & what can people expect?
Bigbus : The title of my new album is called redemption. I titled it that because I’m in a transitional state right now. A lot of blood sweat and tears went into the project, a lot of my emotion went into the project so when you hear it you can expect to feel what I was feeling while I was recording it as if you were there with me . By the end of the album you are going to feel like you know me , like we’ve been friends for 20 years or something lol.
CMB: What do you have lined up for 2010?
Bigbus: To do as many shows in my markets as possible continue to record and put out mix tapes and do as much promo as possible.

March 2010 Musicians of the Month
Gorillaz

Never heard of Gorillaz? That’s strange because 5 years ago they opened the Grammy’s with Madonna when she was the first to grace the public with leotards as stage attire. (now everyone does it… Right Beyonce) They have had some down time since then & now they are back. even with all their cridical acclaim & record sales they remain relativly unkown. Yet this couldn’t be more how they like it. In fact in 10 years no one has ever seen their faces they are simply cartoon characters that sing. When you buy tickets to a Gorillaz concert you better be ready to see amazing screen & 3d holograms back by a human band because that is what your getting. But even the human band isn’t the real band. Or are they? That is the great mystery of the Gorillaz & in this time where people tweet pics of themeselves in the bathroom. Mystery is more than welcomed. We will be reviewing their album which arrives March 9th! Until then Check out their latest video below & our favorites as well!
Musician of the Month 2010 Sade
Clearly Sade isn’t a new artist yet it always feels like square one with her. She only releases one album every 10 years & lucky for her time has been kind to her beautiful face. However will he be so kind to her record sales? Each time around after the first feels like re-introductions. Even though everyone that has anything to do with this site were much to young to remember the release of her first album , we all know the her greatest hits. Especially hits like (epically long) “Smooth Operator” which you can witness the beauty of below. Sade’s sultry voice & melodic crooning has made her win over new audiences as well bring excitement to those that though they’d never hear from her again. So it was a no brainer we had to put Sade here as she releases her latest creation “Soldier of Love”. It’s already getting critical acclaim & is rising in pre-sales. This could be another notch on Sade’s Belt & we may never get the chance to honor her for another ten years so that is why she is our February choice. Have a listen to “Moon & Sky” off her new album & a rare flash back live performance of “Kiss of Love”! Enjoy
