SpotLight Artist of the Month (2010)

September 2010′s SpotLight Artist of the Month:
Milla Jovovich

Model.
Actress.
Martial Arts expert.
Singer.
Mother.
A-Lister.

If those single expressions of her, are not enough to help you understand why she is the Artist of the month. You don’t understand the business. Milla is a woman that started out just being a face & body. Then ended up showing her acting skills , as a high flying hottie with no real language in the film “The Fifth Element”. This helped push her career along. But it was the “Resident Evil” Films that made her a kick-ass movie star! The fact that in one moment you can see her licking off shots at hordes of zombies & then batting her eyelashes for Maybeline the next. Is exactly why she has what it takes to keep a lengthy career in Hollywood. But her biggest win ever has to be her latest film. “Resident Evil 3D” , not for the 3d. But because she came back from motherhood, hotter & more dangerous than ever. That is a spirit that can’t be broken. Check out the featurette below & Go Milla Go!

August 2010 SpotLight Artist of the Month

It has been a long hard journey for Fantasia Barrino & we almost lost her there. That is why this post is arriving just days before the month is over.
Back at the beginning of August we were all set to reveal Fantasia as the August 2010 artist of the month.

Crediting here for being a book writer (all be it spoken word to a ghost writer. Because back then she couldn’t read.)

Starring in her own LifeTime film based on her book. Which expanded her acting skills. Essentially preparing her for her leading role in “The Color Purple Musical”.
A musical that came into her life just when she had claimed bankruptcy & was on her last legs. The Musical went on to be a huge success (thanks to Fantasia & Oprah clearly) Making millions on Broadway.

And now with her new album, we simply couldn’t wait to reveal her as our Artist of The Month. Then she attempted suicide & we paused. It is hard to praise someone & glamorize them if the message of the moment was suicide. So , thinking of our younger readers we decided to wait. Now that Fantasia has re-emerged seemingly stronger than ever & sharing her story. We are proud once again to highlight her for her ……talent.
Her New Album “Back To Me” isn’t as stellar as her debut but it is the album we wish followed it. The Crown Jewel in my eyes is “Man of the House”. It may not be the ultimate display of her power house vocals. But the lyrics speak deep to women all over the world that are sick & tiered of these lame ass men out there! There are some up’s & downs on her new album as in life. But all in all it is great all the way through. Wrapping with a emotionally charged ending straight off the “Color Purple Soundtrack”. Many think she used suicided to publicize her album. Those people may want to check themselves. Because suicide is no laughing matter & had she died , no amount of album sales would bring her back. Check out Her interview with George Lopez that really says it all Plus her latest single & one of our Favs!

Long Live Fantasia

July 2010′s Spotlight Artist of The Month: Leonardo Dicaprio

36 Years old & he has never been more hungry for his craft. The man who will forever been known for saying “I’m the king of the world,” in Titanic. Is also well known for being the actor under the radar. Sure the world occasionally scrutinizes his love affairs with one model after the next. But generally that is all you hear about Leonardo. He is respected as an actor & he choses films that really challenge him. From a young age he has always chose movies & roles that most people don’t want to play. Simply because there is no franchise angle. You won’t catch him throwing on a costume or doing the voice of a cartoon. No Leo would much rather be in a period film having an interesting sex scene, carrying an out dated weapon, & using a voice you can never be sure really where he came from. He like his acting counter part Johnny Depp is also a directors favorite pet when dealing with Martin Scorsese. They worked on 3 films together, “The Gangs of Newyork”, “The Departed” & “Shutter Island”. All of which could have been better than what they were hyped up to being. This is of course not Leo’s fault as he always gives a very good performance. But there is only so much control an actor has, because once it hits the editing room. Its all up to the director. This is especially true for the science fiction thrill “Inception” which arrives in theaters July 16th. Leo will essentially be playing a dream walker in a sense like a modern day sandman. This one comes with a crew. All working to deceive a person in their dreams. Sound strange? It is. No matter how the film turns out it will surely be another interesting performance by a man who sticks to his guns as an Artist. Even if they are Tommy Guns He dreamed up just because he can! Check out the amazing new preview below & an interview with Director & cast below that.

Please continue to check back!!!

June Pride SpotLight Artist of the Month: Photographer / Director Mike Ruiz

Welcome to the Gun SHow!

(we always wanted to say that)  Seriously though he has to be the most gorgeous man to sit behind a camera. Famed photographer Mike Ruiz came into our lives through the magical world of Ru Paul but that isn’t the only celebrity he has worked with. We were tempted to give him Visionary of the month but we felt strongly that for the Gays he truly fit the bill as a Spotlight talent. He clawed his way through the Hollywood, BS to make a serious name for himself. Besides being well respected he is very loved. Not to mention lusted after by women & men alike. Oh & BTW he is an out Gay Male & proud.

After Modeling for a decade in Canada he moved to LA to become an actor. Lucky for all of us he found it uninspiring & at 28 moved on to the field of photography. After doing a range of work in advertising photography he went on to directing music videos for people like Kelly Rowland, Vanessa Williams & our favorite Traci Lords (side note:  he is also close friends with Traci). He is in leagues of Gay Royalty & Icon. With reality show of his very own in the works & more we can’t wait to see what he is cooking up next! Check out two of our favorite music videos directed by Mike Below!

May 2010 Spotlight Artist of the Month

Sarah Jessica Parker

When you think the ultimate New Yorker, a few names come to mind. Donald Trump, Derek Jeter & Carrie Bradshaw aka Sarah Jessica Parker. The star of both “Sex and the City” the series & The films. She known as the ultimate New York social butterfly & shoe-nista. It wasn’t always this way though. Back in the 1990′s she was looked at as just another bubble headed blonde from LA. This was reflected in her rolls as the twitty witch in “Hocus Pocus” & the man stealing bimbo in “The First Wives Club”. Sarah didn’t claim the respect she deserved in Hollywood until HBO green lighted the show that is now know as “Ground Breaking”, SATC. Here she was able to show the world who she really is (sort of). Being a Newyorker herself it was easy for her to take a stride in Carries very expensive shoes & show the world what it was like for single women cresting the new millennium! Four very different women in some very bizarre sex & relationship situations made SATC a huge hit & it ran for 6 seasons. The Character of Carrie Bradshaw became a style Icon that will be remember just as much as Elizabeth Taylor & Jackie Kennedy. In fact it made Sarah a style Icon too. On hiatus between season 4 & 5′s filming Sarah became a mother & this signaled the end of the series. Not on paper but in her own life. She wanted to have time with her child & even though none of us knew it… the girls would be back. Now they are back again. Only two years after the fist film (most likely due to the fact that they ain’t getting any younger) the girls of SATC are back. This May 27th Carrie & the gals take us down another trip… this time to a far away place. Leaving the safety of the NYC street scenes. But will it work? We will have a review coming soon. Check out some of our favorite moments by Sarah until then below.

April 2010 Spot Light Artist of the Month Miley Cyrus

Miley-Cyrus

It Maybe a tough “Climb” (pun intended) But Disney star Miley Cyrus better known as Hanna Montana” is going to attempt a serious acting career. Now that she i one year away from taking over her own career the transition from child star to young adult has begun. This is proven in her recent films. In her new Movie The Last Song An estranged father living in a small Southern beach town gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter, who would rather be home in New York. He tries to connect with her through the only thing they have in common-music. It doesn’t sound much different from what she has done on “Montana” but her range in this film is. Miley at only 16 had accomplished more than most adults their whole lives. Establishing a movie career, tv career, franchise empire & successful music career. If those are not good enough reason to give someone their accolades , then we don’t know what is. Check out the trailer fro The Last Song & some Miley Music below.

Also we would like to mention that she has really come into her beauty & if her looks now are an indication of how she will turn out as a women. Watch out BITCHES!
